Though Honda recently announced it would cease the production of the 2014 Insight, the manufacturer states it's committed to bringing more hybrid models stateside. That's certainly exciting news for those of us here at our Kahului, HI dealership, and hopefully for you, our customers.

With new Insight models off the block, Honda is turning its focus on its lineup of Earth Dreams Technology engines that are found in the 2014 Accord Plug-In Hybrid. The expansion of that model's two-motor hybrid system is the primary driving force behind Honda's efforts to bring more hybrids here to the US.

The new two-motor hybrid engine found in the Accord Plug-In Hybrid gives drivers the ability to switch seamlessly between three driving options - electric-only, hybrid and engine-connected driving modes - to optimize performance and fuel efficiency depending on where you're driving.

Honda says its overall experience with innovative hybrid technologies along with the growing demand of more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles makes this the opportune time to launch an expanded effort in that area.

"Our hybrid vehicle strategy will focus on new models aimed at delivering the class-leading fuel economy and performance our customers desire in segments that represent significant growth opportunities," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of auto operations at American Honda.1
