Last month, Honda unveiled its new Clarity Fuel Cell sedan, set to launch in select markets later this year. Yesterday, the automaker issued a press release announcing that it is expanding the Clarity lineup to include two more alternatively-powered model. With the addition of the all-electric and plug-in hybrid models, Clarity will be the first nameplate in the industry to offer all three technology on one model platform.
After the launch of Clarity Fuel Cell, Clarity Electric will enter the market in 2017 and will be the first affordable midsize battery electric vehicle with premium content and features. Expected to be the lineup's volume leader, Clarity Plug-In Hybrid will follow later in the year, with availability in all 50 states, and an all-electric driving range of more than 40 miles.
All models will be manufactured using environmentally-responsible materials and will offer a number of advanced features such as a Display Audio system with support for advanced in-cabin smartphone connectivity. Honda will also include its Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies as standard equipment.
"The Honda Clarity Series will provide customers with a well-equipped, premium, midsize vehicle with range of ultra low-carbon powertrain options to suit their lifestyle needs," said John Mendel, executive vice president, Automobile Division, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "This Honda trio of dedicated, advanced technology vehicles, along with the expanded application of two- and three-motor hybrid systems to our core models, represents a strong commitment to Honda's future and will help create a new volume pillar for electrified vehicle sales."
