Back in the 1960s, Japanese automaker Honda began eyeing the U.S. market as their next export market. Taking into account the faster driving speeds on American interstates, however, they needed a car more powerful than their N360 in order to get a foothold. This was how the N600 was born, America's first Honda model.
Like the N360, the N600's name was based off of its engine displacement. Unlike modern cars, it used a 600cc two-cylinder engine--the sort found in motorcycles--to power its lightweight frame to up to 77 miles per hour. On the market for four years, 25,000 units were sold in the U.S. before Honda replaced it with a car we know as the Civic. And just like that car, its gas mileage and driving dynamics were beloved by many.
